Adventures Of A Stay At Home Dad

Just trying to balance two little boys and my sanity . . .

Where everybody knows your name

In the past I have written about my business on this blog but haven’t addressed an essential (and most overlooked) aspect of having a small or home based business - marketing. Getting your name out, letting people know what you do, etc. is the only way you will make any money (lets face it, you aren’t working for free right?). Before you start by spending a ton of money on print ads, radio, or even TV, do yourself a favor and invest in humble business cards

Business cards are an inexpensive yet effective way to inform others about your services. All too often I see that business cards are only given to people that have already become clients. I have cards for my business and I use every chance possible to give them to somebody (read: strangers). What do is giving your card only to people you know?

One thing I have to admit though is that my business cards are rather boring. I ordered them online several months ago and, unfortunately, I skimped on the quality. They were created from a template, apparently a popular one as I see the same design just about everywhere I go. This means that mine tend to blend in with the others - it is lacking the eye-catching qualities that make some business cards pop! When I order cards again, I think I will opt for a custom design - of course it costs more but now I understand the need to stand out from the crowd. Things like full color, front and back printing, raised lettering, and some sort of incentive (i.e. discount or referral incentive), I think are a must to get you noticed.

Would $300 be enough for a referral incentive?
