Its such a disappointment . . .

One of the few things in life that I have truly enjoyed and found great escape in is music. Whenever a day has been much too long or I need a little help getting started in the morning, music has been the go-to drug of choice. No matter my mood, music has a way of elevating me to a different place which is much more in tune with how I picture myself to be if I did not have the pedestrian concerns of the everyday.
Here is my problem . . . musicians and actors that promote various political stances that I do not agree with. Perhaps I am too cerebral about things, but when I find out that a musician or actor I like is out stumping for a politician or social cause that I do not believe in, I get mad because now every time I listen to their music or watch a movie I will connect them to their beliefs. Then it just takes away from my experience with their work - is it possible to keep the two separate? Can you appreciate an artists work if you don’t agree with his/her beliefs? Every time I buy a CD or watch a movie from an artist with whom I do not agree its as though I am contributing to furthering their causes.
Believe me - If my favorite musician was doing some fund raiser for my favorite presidential candidate, I would still be upset. It would still cheapen somewhat my experience. The idea of a politician partnering with a celebrity of some kind seems exceptionally slimy - as if the celebrity doesn’t really know what they are agreeing to.
Though I most likely will not through away my CD collection, I will think twice about making purchases in the future.
